Meadow Creek Dairy of Galax, Virginia, is recalling approximately four pounds of their Mini raw milk cheese sold in Fredericksburg, Virginia between July 7 – August 19, 2011.

The Mini cheese was sold in approximately 1-pound squares wrapped in white cheese paper bearing the company logo on top and an identifying code on the bottom. The Minis included in the recall have “12211″ as the final five digits of this code. A sample of a similar cheese made at the same time as the Mini raw milk cheese sampled by the U.S. Food & Drug Administration was positive for Listeria monocytogenes, a bacteria that can cause short-term illness in healthy adults, but can be life-threatening to the young, very old and unborn fetuses.
